AP Chemistry Summer Assignment
Woodland High School Mrs. Nikki Worrell
Welcome to AP Chemistry! This course builds on your knowledge from your first chemistry class along with many new topics. It should be very enjoyable but also challenging.

Due to the nature of this course, there is summer work to refresh your memory on the basics of chemistry. This assignment will count as your first major grade and there will be a quiz over the material the first week of class. Below are the different parts of the assignment:

A) Introduction to the Class (due no later than July 31st)
  • Email me at worrellchemistry@gmail.coman introduction about yourself so I can get to know you better. (This email is where I will contact you so please use an email that you can check on a regular basis.) Please include answers to the following questions in your introduction:
    • What do you enjoy doing outside of school and homework? What are your hobbies/interests?
    • What are some of your favorite books, movies, video games, music, etc.?
    • Do you play sports or work outside of school?
    • What are your favorite and least favorite subjects?
    • What are your future career goals?
    • What areas of chemistry did you find the most interesting?
    • What is one question that you have always been curious about in science (try to make it chemistry-related, but does not have to be)?
  • Go to http://worrellchemistry.wikispaces.com and click on the “Join” option at the top of the screen. Spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with the website as this will be the main method of communication outside of class.
B) Review of Chemistry Fundamentals (due the first day of school)
  • Read chapter 1 and sections 2.1 through 2.7.
  • Work through the following problems at the end of each chapter:
    • Chapter 1: 21, 25, 27, 29, 37, 43, 47, 59, 68, 71
    • Chapter 2: 35, 39, 43, 47, 49, 51, 53
  • Nature of the Atom

Remember that all your work has to be your own but if you have any questions, I have created a discussion post on the website for people to ask questions and answer them. Also feel free to email me at worrellchemistry@gmail.com. As it is summer, I might not get back to you immediately (allow about a day for a response). I look forward to teaching you this year in AP Chemistry and cannot wait to get to know you.

Have a great summer and please ask if you have any questions,

Mrs. Worrell
